The joint-training program of Master of Supply Chain Management between Nguyen Tat Thanh University and Malaysia University of Science and Technology
According to statistics of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, by the end of December, 2019, the total newly registered, adjusted, contributed capital and shares purchased by foreign investors reached 38.2 billion USD, a 7.2% increase compared to the same period in 2018. The realized capital of FDI projects was estimated at 20.38 billion USD, an increase of 6.7% compared to the same period in 2018. In which, service sectors as education, finance and logistics are highly potential and competitive.
From those figures, it could be seen that the global value chain has grown exponentially and accounted for a large proportion of import-export trade. This requires an understanding of global cash flows, services, goods and data, which are topics covered in supply chain programs.
In addition, major ports in Vietnam include Hai Phong, Da Nang, Qui Nhon, and Ho Chi Minh City, in which the Saigon Port is the 26th largest port in the world and the 5th biggest in ASEAN. This is not only a great advantage for exploiting economic development but also a big challenge with a lack of qualified staff and professional training in the supply chain to reduce the negative impacts of 4.0 industrial revolution and take advantages of Vietnam’s seaport strength for economic development.
Therefore, the training programs for human resources in the field of Supply Chain Management are crucially urgent for Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular. Besides, currently, there is no university in Vietnam that can offer a Master program in Supply Chain Management due to the lack of lecturers in the right field.
Being aware of that demand, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has cooperated with Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST) to provide the Master program in Supply Chain Management. The 1.5-year full-time program includes 3 semesters, the total of 40 credits, two intakes each year with about 30 students per intake.
Lecturers of the program come from Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST). The program will be taught entirely in English (with the teaching assistant in Vietnamese if needed). Upon completion of the program, students will be awarded a Master of Supply Chain Management by MUST.
Candidates include students who have graduated from universities in all disciplines with the desire to pursue higher qualification in Supply Chain Management and have an average score of above 5.0. To enroll in this program, candidates need to submit all required documents and information, must have an English proficiency of B2 level or equivalent required by MUST.
